Scholarship Criteria

NDTA Washington D.C. Chapter

Merit Scholarship Criteria

1. The Washington, D.C. Chapter, NDTA awards merit scholarships to both qualified undergraduate and graduate applicants from available Chapter funds to encourage the continuing education of NDTA Chapter members in transportation related fields.

2. The application for a Washington, DC. Chapter NDTA Merit Scholarship will be made on the Merit Scholarship Application Form. Career goals, statements, transcripts, and other supporting documents must be included and the application form MUST BE endorsed by a faculty advisor or administrator.

3. Both undergraduate and graduate applications will be accepted for consideration. Merit Scholarship awards are based upon the following criteria::· Scholastic ability-minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale as indicated by an official school transcript.· Planned use of Merit Scholarship funds and career goals as described in a student essay of not more that 250 words.· Completion of a minimum of 30 semester hours (or quarter hour equivalent) for undergraduate applicants and a minimum of 12 semester hours (or quarter equivalent) for graduate applicants.· Membership in the Washington, D.C. Chapter or a Washington, D.C. metropolitan area university/college chapter of the NDTA. NDTA members must include their membership number on the application. Student memberships in NDTA are available for persons who are not currently members. Non-NDTA members who apply for the Washington, D.C. Chapter NDTA Merit Scholarships must submit an application for student membership and a $10.00 check (non-refundable) to cover the student membership fee. This will cover a one-year student membership in the Washington, D.C. Chapter. (Submission and acceptance of the membership application does not infer that a scholarship will be awarded to the applicant. It is merely a means of meeting one of the requirements for scholarship consideration.)

4. Receipt of application packages will not be acknowledged. Individuals selected for receipt of a scholarship will be notified prior to public release of the Merit Scholarship selection announcement. Scholarship recipients will normally be invited, as guests of the Chapter, to attend a Chapter luncheon where they will be recognized. Individuals not selected for scholarship award will not be notified of their non-selection.

5. Merit Scholarship application packages must be submitted to the Washington, D.C. Chapter NDTA Scholarship Chairman, C/O Jim Etzel, 8056 Counselor Road, Manassas, VA, 20112-4752. All applications must be postmarked no later than 1 March of each year. Merit Scholarship awards will be effective for the summer and fall terms of the same calendar year.
