Leading the WAY
NDTA Mentor ~ Protégé Program

The Washington DC Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) will kick off its Mentor / Protégé Program beginning on February 21st. The Program, which is in its seventh season,  is FREE and includes six after-work-hour sessions to fit your busy schedule.  Your level of opportunity far outweighs your investment!

What's the gain?  Consider the following testimonial from a former NDTA Protégé as proof of this rewarding program…..

About six years ago, I entered a new phase in my career. One of my added responsibilities was managing a large group of people.  I needed help to understand the intricacies of such a daunting task so I turned to NDTA’s Mentor Protégé Program. MG William Farmen, USA (Ret.) volunteered his time and talents with me [Bio is linked above]. He shared so many constructive tips and practical ways that I could implement his expert guidance.  I still hear him to this day, “It’s your job to help people to be the best that they can.  Let them know they have your support.  You don’t need a heavy hand – you don’t have to dictate  - just provide the tools so folks can be successful at their job.   Always let people know that they have your support - in good times and bad - and keep those lines of communication open.“

The benefits of NDTA's Mentor ~ Protégé Program are long lasting. Our NDTA Protégé recalls that MG Farmen was genuinely approachable in spite of his international renown and accomplishments, which made a lasting impression. He also established an environment of trust and concern.  Our Protégé adds that the advice given so long ago is still called in to play on a daily basis, following several job promotions and ever increasing responsibilities.

The NDTA Mentor / Protégé Program is distinct from Department of Defense mentoring initiatives that cater to business procedures. With NDTA.....

  • The focus is on the Individual
  • The purpose is to Lead the Way towards professional development
  • Sessions are conducted one-on-one
  • The program is strictly dependent on volunteers
