Bagging Groceries at the
Arlington Food Assistance Center

Since 1994, volunteers representing NDTA's Washington DC Chapter have assisted with bagging groceries at the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) in Virginia. AFAC is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing supplemental food items to Arlington residents who cannot afford to purchase sufficient food to meet their basic needs. On the 4th Wednesday of each month, about a half dozen volunteers representing the DC Chapter meet at the AFAC warehouse near Shirlington, and prepare several hundred bags of donated groceries to be redistributed to clients who have been referred by private or public agencies or by religious organizations. Over the last year, the DC Chapter volunteers have prepared 3,000 bags which were distributed by AFAC.
